Help with preserving a WW2 Bomber Jacket?
My Dad died a while back, and he left me his bomber jacket. Not a copy, the real thing. He flew a B-24 out of North Africa and Italy in 43 and 44 so it has his name tag (CPT John P. Kelly Pilot, US ARMY AIR CORPS) his squadron insignia etc. Some of the paint is starting to flake and this worries me. I would love to loan this thing to a museum that will professionally preserve it, but no one locally will take it, and I want it close by so my kids can have access to it. Anyone know of an organization that might be able to help me with this? Tips on conserving it? What do I do, I don't want it to just rot in the closet.
