Is it safe to heat my home with propane?

Hello, I just moved into my home about 2 weeks ago and I rent. I heat my home with propane and my mother has been having dreams about it being unsafe and flashes of our house blowing up in her head. My mother has also been sleep walking and and getting to a point where she is almost seizuring. We are both becoming very sick because of this and can taste it in the air and don't know what to do. Is heating my home with propane legal? Does anyone know anything? This is getting scary and we don't know what to do.
