How can I convince my kid to work hard at school?

What are her interests? Many bright children just lose interest if there are not activities that encourage thinking about the future--higher education and good jobs. Are there any Career Pathways or Academies in her school? Any vocational or work programs? Of course we know that lectures can be boring, but the kids today seem to just tune out rather than suffer through it like we did :) Is there something else going on? Can you afford to send her to a therapist? Punishments often don't work for this type of activity, so I can understand your frustration. BUT there may be something else going on.
