Could it be Mono or Tonsillitis?

My throat has been killing me to swallow and eat for 4 days... I have a stuffy nose but the doctor said because its my tonsils are really swollen me seem congested. That is my only other problem. I am not tired, nor do I have a fever its just my throat. The doctor sent me to get tested for mono which makes no since. I have no other symptom for mono except my throat being swollen. And today the doctor noticed white puss spots but it isn't strep...
